FAQs
How much does a birth doula cost?
Birth support can cost anywhere from $800-3000 in Texas!
I don’t need a doula if I’m planning on getting an epidural, right?
Actually, I support people with epidurals all the time! Information about placement, timing, and common side effects of an epidural is so important! I will be there to normalize the birth experience just as I would be if you didn't get an epidural. A key part of what I do is also supporting your partner. Sometimes things in the birth space can look kind of scary, so I do a lot of emotional support and, again, normalizing the process. I also happen to know where all of the buttons to turn off the beeping are ;)
Can you have a doula if you’re having a c-section?
Oh, totally! I've supported many c-sections, planned and unplanned. We'll chat about what your options are in the OR, from dimmed lights to immediate skin-to-skin, and I'll be there to support you through the process! Sometimes, I will even be in the OR with you. I can also trade spots with your partner while they go with the baby so that you never have to be alone.
Does having a doula guarantee my ideal birth?
No. Unfortunately, it doesn’t. We are not magical—the statistics out there that having a doula lowers unwanted cesarean rates and unnecessary inductions is not a guarantee that your birth won’t unfold in an unpredictable way.
Having a doula means having another support person for however your birth unfolds, but it never guarantees a birth outcome.
I have a midwife—do I still need a doula?
I get this question a lot. So, let's start by talking about the differences between our roles in the birth space. Your midwife will be charting, taking blood pressure readings, listening to heart rates, and taking care of you medically. They are doing SUCH important work to make sure that you and your baby are safe. As for my role: I will be with you, doing hip squeezes and counter pressure, I will be reassuring you that you're doing amazingly, I will be handing the water bottle to your partner to give to you. I will doing SUCH important work to make sure that you and your partner (if you have one) feel safe, confident, loved, and cared for. Both your midwife and I will be there to make your birthing experience memorable.
How do I pay for doula support?
I offer payment plans and I now offer a gift card option! You can put the link to the gift card on your registry, holiday wish list, or send it out to friends and family to help pay for your birth support. Woohoo! I am also open to bartering and trading services, depending upon what is offered. Let's talk about it! Everyone deserves doula support. If these prices are not something you can afford, let me know. You deserve loving support.
Will we only get to talk during our prenatal meetings and the birth?
Oh my, no. Most of what I do is prenatal support. The birth is only a few hours of our relationship. When you sign with me, you get access to me at all times. If there is a question keeping you up at 11:30pm--text me. I am here for you throughout your pregnancy. No more google spirals!
