MEET THE DOULA
Hey there, I’m Molly.
I got into birthwork through the most wonderful and unexpected way: my life came undone.
I was planning all of the things. I was getting my life in order. I was going to get my PhD in Sociology. Then, my memaw died. My maternal grandmother, the matriarch of our family, moved through life’s last transition just as I was finding my way into Reproductive Justice oriented work and research. She actually passed on just a few days after I learned what a doula even was. Fascinated, but unconcerned, with this profession I read about as I was researching the Black maternal mortality rate in Texas, I closed the tab “why is a doula important” and drove home to Houston, TX.
When I was with my family, in grief and in joy, I realized how similar birth and death can be—they are the most integral parts of being human, both are powerful, both can be filled with love/sorrow/grief/laughter/joy/wonder. As I supported my own grieving process as well as my family’s, I fell in love with doula work.
Since then, I trained and certified with Doula Trainings International in 2019, am a certifying postpartum doula with Austin Baby Guru, a trained Full-spectrum doula and Childbirth Educator with Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings, and a training Childbirth Mentor/Educator with Birthing From Within! If you couldn’t tell, I’m for sure a forever-learner. In 2019, I founded Healing Birthwork, was mentored by the owners of Austin Doula Care right off the bat, and began volunteering with Giving Austin Labor Support. I am now the Data and Evaluations Director for GALS.
Through extensive studies and training, I have dedicated my whole career to understanding and loving what makes humans, human. A cat mom, sister, daughter, friend, partner, and reproductive justice (a term coined by Loretta Ross of SisterSong) advocate, I hope to make room in this world for all radical and transformative love—one birth at a time.
the goals:
transformational birthwork
When we work together, I am there for you and your family. There is no judgement about your preferences, your goals, or you. I believe wholeheartedly that there is no right way to give birth. I work, constantly, to un-do the rigid boundaries around what birthwork is—making room for more heart.
When we work together, we don’t only equip you with the modern tools you need to give birth (education, evidence), we dive deep into what makes you, you. Because, at the end of the day, birth is synonymous with the unknown—and the best tool you can bring with you is the self-compassion and curiosity we work on fostering together.
